GOP nominee for Attorney General James Buchal slams ObamaCare ruling and promises support of individual rights
PORTLAND - In response to the U.S. Supreme Court's ruling on the Patent Protection and Affordable Care Act, also known as ObamaCare, the Republican nominee running for the office of Oregon Attorney General released the following statement:
"If, as Justice Roberts suggests, ObamaCare may be upheld as a “tax,” there is almost no limit to federal power. Through heavy taxes, Congress can now reach beyond its lawful powers and force whatever conduct it desires.
It is ironic that the only parts of ObamaCare struck down by the Court relates to the freedom of States, not of individuals. The Court's view on the issues decided today is clear - states have rights and people don’t.
History shows to where a government of unlimited power leads - toward the subjugation of its citizens and the destruction of their prosperity and freedoms. As your Attorney General, I will fight for your freedom and prosperity. I urge all Oregonians to join me in this fight by electing me, and others who value your rights, to public office in November."
-James Buchal is a Yale Law graduate practicing complex civil litigation in Portland.
